Construction Craft Laborers perform a wide variety of tasks in all areas of construction: commercial, industrial, and residential building construction; heavy and highway construction; demolition work and environmental remediation.

Laborers check grade for highway construction and excavation and backfilling operations; place concrete and work with concrete forms; install sewer/water systems, including fusing polyethylene pipe; perform demolition and building alterations using oxyacetylene and air plasma cutting equipment; operate rock drilling equipment and set charges for blasting operations; lay asphalt and place concrete pavements for highways, roads and parking lots; build scaffolding; use rigging and signaling skills to distribute building materials; operate skid steer loaders used in concrete construction and rough-terrain forklifts used in masonry construction; operate and maintain an array of pneumatic, gas engine and electric power tools; use levels, transits, laser beam equipment and ground positioning systems in excavation and grading operations; perform asbestos and lead abatement as well as hazardous waste operations, including removal of radioactive contaminated soils and structures.Apprentice Laborers Contractors Training Center 1

Construction Craft Laborers’ Apprenticeship Program

The Construction Craft Laborers’ Apprenticeship Program is designed to give individuals the skills and abilities needed for a rewarding career in construction, whether employed on building construction, heavy/highway construction, utility line construction or environmental abatement/remediation.

It all takes hard work and willingness, but the opportunities are there if you stay with the program.

Earn while you learn

Construction Craft Laborers will finish their apprenticeship in 30-36 months. They will work with experienced journey level laborers on the job and attend training classes at theLABORERS & CONTRACTORS Training Center located near High Hill, MO. They will complete 4,000 hours of work on the job with starting wages between $17.50 - $19.00 per hour. Apprentices receive the same pension, health and welfare, and vacation benefits as journey level laborers.

LABORERS & CONTRACTORS Training Center High Hill equipmentHourly wages are progressively increased based on hours worked on the job and classes completed at the Training Center. Apprentices will complete 300 – 392 hours of classroom and ‘hands-on’ training. Training classes are between 1 and 5 days long. Class sizes are small, usually 6-8.

College Credit

LABORERS & CONTRACTORS Training Center High Hill concretThe Construction Craft Laborers’ Apprenticeship Program is a recognized program that can earn you 40-48 credit hours towards an associate’s degree from two year colleges in Missouri.

Apply Today

Persons 18 years of age or older that have completed the 12th grade can apply to the program throughout the year. To receive an application, you can email the Apprenticeship Office at app@lctcmo.org stating you want to apply to the program. You will need to also email a picture of your high school diploma or GED, along with a picture of your driver’s license or birth certificate.

Applications are also accepted in person at the LABORERS & CONTRACTORS Training Center in High Hill, MO between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on any Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (except holidays). You must bring proof of age (birth certificate, driver’s license) and proof of education (high school transcript, diploma or GED certificate). You should have a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation. Persons must be able to work well with others, follow directions and be physically able to adjust to the rigors of working outdoors.
