Beginner through intermediate level dancers learn spacing, rhythm, dance counts, and high-energy group choreography using hip-hop dance elements, such as breakdancing and pop locking. We also explore the element of freestyle and create a hip-hop "crew" name. Fundamentals of Hip Hop concludes with a high-energy performance for family and friends during the final 20 minutes of camp.

An authentic immersion!

We've got spirit, yes we do, we've got spirit, how 'bout you? Campers will learn beginner cheers and dances. They will practice new moves all week and then have a performance on Friday.

Every June, approximately 500 teenagers converge on the campus of Iowa State University for 3 days full of speakers, workshops, mixers, dances, a banquet, and service-learning activities.

Aspiring dancers learn hip-hop steps and connect them with freestyle steps of their own creation to put together high-energy group choreography. Students gain an understanding of dance concepts, such as rhythm, musicality, spacing, and levels. They also create a hip-hop "crew" name and design a T-shirt. Hip-Hop Basics concludes with an in-person performance for family and friends during the final 20 minutes of camp.

For more than 60 years, Illinois Summer Youth Music (ISYM) has helped young musicians improve their artistry, strengthen their self-confidence, and embark on professional careers. Junior and senior high school students perform with large band, orchestra, chorus, and jazz ensembles or attend intensive, specialized instrumental programs. Students return home with newly developed skills, a lifelong sense of discipline, and in-depth training. Musical Theatre is comprised of workshops designed to prepare interested singers and actors for the musical stage.
