For anyone interested in a field of emergency medicine, or in serving on the response team as a non-EMS responder in the government, corporate, law enforcement, or corrections field, the Emergency Medical Response course provides invaluable skills and knowledge to help responders appropriately help at the scene of an emergency. This team-based, interactive course covers topics such as medical terminology, effective communication, and basic patient assessment techniques. Campers will learn how to take vitals, proper lifting and moving skills, in addition to treatment for a variety of common emergencies. Campers will also have the chance to earn their healthcare-level American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.

Campers will examine and explore the multi-faceted world of healthcare careers alongside current health professions students and faculty in a four-day residential experience on the campus of Auburn University (AU).

Nursing Camp, facilitated by Auburn University School of Nursing (AUSON) and Auburn Youth Programs (AYP), is an engaging one-week summer program available for high school students interested in careers in nursing. Camp participants “learn by doing” and practice technical skills as they rotate through interactive learning stations led by undergraduate nursing students in the school’s labs and simulation center. Faculty use case studies and simulation scenarios to bring healthcare specializations like emergency medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and home health to life as the teens provide care for simulated patients throughout the week. The week includes team competitions, learning opportunities with community healthcare professionals, and discussion of educational pathways to nursing.

The AIMS Medical and Surgical Procedures Workshop provides an overview of anatomy and an introduction to careers in the health care field. Physicians and professionals from various medical specialties provide programs in their areas of expertise using auditorium presentations, hands-on laboratory experiences and group interactions. Students also view several surgical demonstrations on-site by expert faculty and surgeons from SLU and other local hospitals and universities. This workshop is available for all students in the age group of high school freshmen to incoming college freshmen (ages 15-19) interested in science and medicine.

Join other brickheads in building and designing Lego creations that revolve around themes and teach strategy, flexibility, and creative thinking-skills that parents and children never knew plastic pieces could provide. TONS of bricks will be provided, as well as instruction booklets (sometimes) as students build their own fun. Daily books, projects, and building will lead to a remarkable week.

Auburn University's Industrial Design Camp offers an engaging program for rising 9th - 12th grade students interested in a professional career in Industrial Design. Hosted by the College of Architecture, Design, and Construction's School of Industrial and Graphic Design, this week-long resident camp offers an intensive design experience beginning with the identification of a design problem and rapidly progressing through idea generation, concept development, and exploratory prototyping.

The Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine partners with the Auburn University Office of Professional and Continuing Education to offer Vet Camps each summer to youth interested in the veterinary medicine profession. Campers will learn about veterinary medicine first-hand in classrooms, laboratories, and outdoor facilities that include Auburn’s raptor, equine, dairy, and beef. Campers will learn about public health, farm animals, exotics & wildlife, companion animals, anatomy, physiology, surgery prep skills, and research, as well as gain valuable mentoring about careers in the veterinary sciences.

Brain Camp is a fun, interactive camp for young leaders who are rising juniors and seniors in high school, or about to enter their freshman year of college to get hands-on experience using advanced technology and to learn from distinguished professors in the field of neuroscience. Students will be led by two faculty members in the Department of Psychological Sciences – Jeff Katz, Ph.D. (Mike and Leann Rowe Endowed Professor), and Jen Robinson, Ph.D., (Alumni Professor), and high school psychology teacher, Ms. Kathy Dodgen.
