For anyone interested in a field of emergency medicine, or in serving on the response team as a non-EMS responder in the government, corporate, law enforcement, or corrections field, the Emergency Medical Response course provides invaluable skills and knowledge to help responders appropriately help at the scene of an emergency. This team-based, interactive course covers topics such as medical terminology, effective communication, and basic patient assessment techniques. Campers will learn how to take vitals, proper lifting and moving skills, in addition to treatment for a variety of common emergencies. Campers will also have the chance to earn their healthcare-level American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.

Nursing Camp, facilitated by Auburn University School of Nursing (AUSON) and Auburn Youth Programs (AYP), is an engaging one-week summer program available for high school students interested in careers in nursing. Camp participants “learn by doing” and practice technical skills as they rotate through interactive learning stations led by undergraduate nursing students in the school’s labs and simulation center. Faculty use case studies and simulation scenarios to bring healthcare specializations like emergency medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and home health to life as the teens provide care for simulated patients throughout the week. The week includes team competitions, learning opportunities with community healthcare professionals, and discussion of educational pathways to nursing.

These projects allow the students to display the information they have learned throughout the week. This is a studio focused, project-based camp where students will learn through hands-on experiences. While working each day in the Auburn University School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture building, students engage and learn from the university’s highly qualified professors with the opportunity for individual guidance as well.
